What you need to know - Terms of USE (Electric LCV Demo)
Eligibility
- The driver must hold a full, valid driving licence suitable for the vehicle class and have held it for a minimum of 3 years.
- Drivers must be aged 25 to 70.
- A valid photo ID must be presented if the driving licence does not include a photograph.
Insurance
- It is the hirer’s responsibility to ensure the vehicle is insured for the entire duration of the demonstration period.
- A copy of a valid insurance certificate must be provided before the vehicle is released.
Permitted Use
- The vehicle is for demonstration purposes only (testing suitability for business use).
- Must not be used off-road, on a race track, for racing, towing beyond manufacturer limits, or for any illegal purpose.
- Must not be driven under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any impairing medication.
- No hazardous, toxic, flammable, or dangerous materials may be carried at any time.
- The vehicle must not leave the UK under any circumstances.
During the Demonstration Period
- The hirer must check oil, water, and tyre pressures regularly and keep the vehicle in a roadworthy condition.
- The EV battery must not fall below 10% charge at any time during use.
- Any warning light must be reported to SIXT van & truck immediately. Failure to report may result in the hirer being liable for all resulting costs.
- The vehicle must be locked when not in use and all security devices engaged.
In the Event of an Accident
- Do not admit or accept liability to any third party.
- Obtain names, addresses, and contact details of all parties and witnesses.
- Contact the police immediately if anyone is injured or the road is blocked.
- Call SIXT van & truck’s breakdown assistance and report the accident within 12 hours.
Fines, Charges & Penalties
- Any fines or penalties incurred are the responsibility of the hirer.
- An administration fee of £40 per transaction will be charged for any fines handled by SIXT van & truck on the hirer’s behalf.
- The hirer agrees to indemnify SIXT van & truck against all fines, charges, and legal costs arising from use of the vehicle.
⚠️ Damage Liability — Please Read Carefully IMPORTANT ⚠️
- The hirer is fully liable for any loss or damage to the vehicle during the demonstration period, including full repair or replacement costs, loss of use charges, and an administration fee.
- The hirer must inspect the vehicle at collection. Any pre-existing damage must be recorded on the Rental Agreement at that time. The hirer will be held liable for any damage not recorded at collection.
- The EV charging cable must be returned undamaged — replacement costs will be charged if damaged or not returned.
- If the hirer causes damage to a public EV charging station, they will be fully liable for any resulting fine or charge.
- If the vehicle is stolen, the hirer remains responsible for rental fees for the remainder of the period and may be liable for the full vehicle replacement cost. Theft must be reported to the police immediately and a crime reference number provided to SIXT van & truck.
- The hirer must not attempt any repairs to the vehicle without prior written consent from SIXT van & truck.
- Breach of these terms may result in loss of any damage waiver, making the hirer responsible for the full cost of repair, loss of use, third-party costs, and administration fees.
Vehicle Return
- The vehicle must be returned with a minimum of 80% charge. A recharging fee applies if below 80%; an additional fee if at or below 10%.
- No smoking or pets inside the vehicle. Cleaning charges apply if required (min. £50, up to £200).
- The vehicle must be returned in a clean condition. A valeting fee may apply if returned dirty.
- The vehicle must be returned by the agreed time and date. Late returns may incur daily charges.
- SIXT van & truck accepts no responsibility for personal property left in the vehicle. Items left on return will be disposed of without notice.
Telematics & Data
- The vehicle will be fitted with a telematics device to monitor mileage, location, and driving style.
- SIXT van & truck may use this data for safety, recovery, or to check for breaches of these terms.
- Persistent breaches may result in early termination of the demonstration.
